Well, it was a slightly strange birthday.
I called in at Mum's on the way to work, and she showed me 2 nice shirts she had bought me because she didn't want me to have no present on my actual birthday. Her real present is taking me to lunch at a restaurant called Vatika which is attached to the vineyard at Wickham. It is owned by semi-celebrity chef Atul Kochhar who has a Michelin star restaurant in London. My sister (of whom more later) is coming as well - paying her own way, but she will get her wine gratis I expect. We're looking forward to it, and Merry will have a full report the following Tuesday.
At work I bought cakes for the folk who don't like Icelandic pancakes. They thought they would have the cakes on Tuesday, but so many of the non-pancake people are not in that day I decided to get them early. However, one of the ones who WOULD have been in on Tuesday was off sick, so I couldn't let her custard doughnut go to waste. I'll buy her another one on Tuesday if she is in, so she can have that while everybody else has their Icelandic pancakes, made by Mum.
Today my sister and brother in law entertained us for lunch. Having already asked me what I would like, I asked for beef wellington and she did us proud with it. Her starter was a small prawn and egg salad with potato salad as well, very nice. The beef wellington was a triumph. As for pud - well, I couldn't resist the boozy trifle. My niece and her boyfriend were there as well, so all my family in Hampshire were there. Linsay and Dias gave me a bottle of Tia Maria, and Nancy and Jeff gave me a couple of very nice books issuing forth from the Tolkiens. I have just remembered I left them in the car, so I must go and get them when I have finished this post.
So that was my birthday. Thanks to you all as well for my Birthday Greetings.
