Reviews too. I just enjoyed a Tesco Finest and very nice it was too. I see it makes a reasonable, though not over-generous, showing at No 6 on the league table.
Anyone else had any yet or am I the earliest pie-scoffer? I have had..... eight so far this year PS. And I don't even like them that much!PPS (Post-Pie-Scriptum)
Though they are vastly improved served warm with a load of melting, oozing, unctuous brandy butter popped under the lid. PPS (Post-Pie-Scriptum)
Thingummie Minor and I made crimson mince tarts for the Autumn Regency Ball, which started off our mince season.
I've been alternating mince with other pies, so that family and friends wont get tired of eating them before Twelvetide. Squash pie for Thanksgiving, lemon curd pie this past week, and pear crisp for TM's homecoming from university this weekend.
We are going to miss the Christmas Regency dance because our Rescue Squad is having its 30th Anniversary celebration the same night.
Therefore we are treating ourselves to the Twelfth Night Ball at Gadsby's Tavern museum in Alexandria. TM and I will be baking for that event.
Long, long drive, but worth it once in a great while. Dancing and mince tarts and ball gowns. Frivolous, us, heh.It looks amazing and you will be in very hallowed ghostly company
George Washington enjoyed the hospitality provided by tavernkeepers and twice attended the annual Birthnight Ball held in his honor. Other prominent patrons included John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and the Marquis de Lafayette.
Let us know if you Sense their Presence at all.
Can we have pics of the ballgowns, with Asy and TM in or out of them? merry has never owned a ballgown. wistful.I haven't had any yet this year and so am remembering last year and recipes could have changed.
We had loads brought into our work place as special treats and I ate many different kinds. The M and S ones were the nicest so I would agree with the survey.I tried making some mince pies last week but the pastry went hard. You must be supposed to do something different with little pie pastry than big pie pastry which didn't turn bad.
I just ate the mincemeat bit and it was dated Dec 2008 and I am living to tell the tale. Am I the earliest mince pie scoffer this year 2010? .Ooh yes I think you must be
I googled for a 'Mince Pie Medal' to award you and this was the first one that came up.
The pastry was maybe hard because you had to roll it and reroll it for the smaller pies? The less it's handled the better. I use an egg yolk instead of any water in pastry, which gives a lighter crisper result.
Here is your medal.I only rolled it the once apart from the last leftovers pie and cut the pastry with a round pastry cutter. Maybe you are not supposed to cook them in little fairy cake tins?
Anyway I can confirm that if you make a big mince pie in a saucer and cut it into 4 pieces the pastry is not hard and it is nicer.
Thank you for the medal. I will be glad when all this raw ingrdients food is used up and we have normality.
