and normal people look like celebrities.

I am thinking one thing fits, except for the last line. I don't think I'm going to feel very happy with the answer.
I keep thinking of things like Photoshop, or cameras... but then other bits don't fit!
I have also considered: global warming, yeast, the tabloids, and TV. And hormones.
Am I anywhere close with any of the above...? Intriguing but I don't think I will get it. 
I thought eyes/vision, but it doesn't fit them all. Still working on it.
