How wonderful -- congratulations!
The dress looks very pretty to me -- I look forward to seeing a photo, hearing about the event, and reading the haiku!
Midge I am not at all ashamed to reveal that I have conversations with the Chaircat -after all she is Not an Ordinary Cat.
Chrissie - the Marriott near Regent's Park - very handy for STPD
Thank you Helio and Hags!
Haiku and details are on Mr Merry's webpage here
Oh look, you're back now! So how was it? Was it lovely and fun? Was it daft? Was it both?
Hope you both had a lovely time!
Well, it was an amazing experience and I wouldn't have missed it for the world - however I will be very glad never to have to do it again
The party was a mad dizzying whirl - champagne flowing from a never-ending fountain, very strange but exotic food in little cones, famous people, Ed Milliband was there, Gok Wan (I never saw him which is just as well as he might have looked me up and down and had scathing words to say about my Boden.) Kathy Lette the novelist, Tim Dowling from the Guardian (lots of Gruaniad hacks) Natasha Walter the feminist. Some people said Sarah Ferguson was there but I didn't see her.
I didn't meet any of these people so am not technically namedropping but I did get to shake hands with Gordon Brown who was very nice - when he stopped by our table and homed in on one of my companions to exchange a few words with, a bumptious press official gestured to STPD and me to lean back so as not to ruin the shot
however, though we leaned back with alll our might with strained, distant smiles, we still got into it as you can see: (STPD left forefront, me, right)
Prime Minister within two feet of merry and STPD
The hotel was wonderful and football fans (do we have any on HF?) might be interested to know that the Egypt football team, playing at Wembley as I write, was staying in the hotel. They were very handsome and very well-behaved.
I met Johnnie Boden and he said how nice my dress looked (but he would, wouldn't he). I'm not convinced as there are some posts on Mumsnet suggesting the Boden-wearers had not carried it off successfully
Google HQ was stunning and so hi-tech there were Jellytots on tap and the toilets were so cunning the doors were invisible, which meant I had to be show by STPD how to break through the glossy wall.
Mumsnet 10th Birthday Party - Telegraph
Well it sounds much more exciting than anything I did that day (or that decade as it happens)
Not just meeting Gordon Brown, but him being there to be seen with you. Eager to be photographed with real and influential people (which Mumsnet collectively is). You should have taken him aside and given him some tips.
Even I'd give in to temptation at least once to say "as I said to the PM the other day...."
Not to mention "the Poet Laureate liked my Haiku and a top fashion designer liked the way I was dressed"
The Google building sounds fun. I'd have gone just to see that.

Second clip down.
Ed Milliband appears, thus proving he was there - also merry and STPD - about 2 mins 40 in
It does sound amazing - I'm glad it turned out to be an evening well worth having (if not every night!
). One to remember, certainly!
(how do you get through the invisible wall, then?
)
Wow looks like an amazing night, Merry! Will I have to curtsey when I see you next?
Like the sound of the champagne fountain and think I would have ended up in it!
Look forward to hearing lots more when I see you, social engagements permitting
@ "social engagements permitting" I think merry could be a popular guest at the local coffee mornings now she has rubbed shoulders with the PM.
No one is ever likely to show me on TV. Unless the caption said "armed and mildly dangerous"
